About the Knin Fortress
Perched high above the town of Knin, the Knin Fortress is one of the largest and most significant fortification complexes in Croatia. Spanning over 20,000 square meters, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape — from the mighty Dinara mountain to the valley where rivers Krka and Butižnica meet.
Dating back to the 9th century, the fortress was once the seat of Croatian kings, including King Dmitar Zvonimir. Throughout history, it has served as a strategic stronghold, a symbol of resistance, and a cultural landmark. Walking through its gates, towers, and stone passages, you’ll experience centuries of Croatian heritage etched into every corner.
